Skylight Saving Hacks & Tips
A gift that actually gets used
I got a Skylight frame for my parents, it’s been one of the better gifts I’ve given them. My standard for gifts is that they should be easy to use and not just sit around collecting dust, and this definitely passed that test. They love seeing new photos of the grandkids pop up, and it works so much better than texting pictures they might forget to open...
Finally a size that doesn’t take over the counter
I was worried this was going to be one of those things that looks fine online but ends up being way too big and annoying in the kitchen. Thankfully, the size actually works well on our counter. It’s big enough to read without squinting, but not so huge that it feels like it’s taking over the whole space.
Sidekick kind of works, but I wouldn’t rely on it completely
I tried using Sidekick with my kids’ school emails, and it was a little hit or miss. It picked up a few events, which was nice, but it also missed some stuff I definitely wouldn’t want to lose track of. I still ended up double-checking the emails myself because missing a school event or deadline would be more annoying than just taking a few minutes to verify everything. Helpful when it works, but I wouldn’t fully trust it on its own.
A little stressful getting it set up
I was excited to give this as a gift, but the activation part put me in a bad mood. I ran into issues getting it working, and support was really slow to get back to me. When you’re trying to have something ready on time, especially for a gift, that kind of delay feels extra frustrating
Wish I’d set chore expectations sooner
I got the chore chart thinking it would magically fix everything, and for the first week my kids were actually excited about it. I kind of regret not setting more realistic expectations from the start because the novelty definitely wore off. It still helps keep everyone on track, but yeah… not a miracle worker lol.
Subscription cost made me think twice
I really do like my Skylight Calendar, but my gut says the subscription is what makes it start to feel pricey. The device itself is useful, I just wish more of the features were included upfront instead of needing another monthly cost.
Skylight Calendar finally calmed down our kitchen chaos
We put the Skylight Calendar in our kitchen it’s been such a small thing that helps a lot. Kids’ activities, dinner plans, appointments, random reminders. All right there where everyone can see it. Way less “what are we doing today?” chaos.
Did anyone else have WiFi trouble at first?
When I first set up my Skylight frame, it would not connect to WiFi and I thought I was doing something wrong. I ended up moving it closer to the router, and then it finally connected without an issue. Not sure if this is common, but that worked for me.
Setup was honestly pretty easy
I set up the Skylight frame quicker than I expected. My mom isn’t really techy at all, but she was still able to figure it out without much trouble, so I’d say the setup is user-friendly.
Apple Calendar Sync Took a Little Babysitting
Getting my Apple Calendar to sync with Skylight was not exactly the smooth little setup I was hoping for. It did work in the end, thankfully, but only after I poked around in the settings and tried a few workarounds that probably shouldn’t have been necessary. So, yes, it syncs — just don’t expect it to magically cooperate on the first try.
First impression was solid: shipping was right on time
I ordered from myskylight.com as a Mother’s Day gift, and my first impression was based almost entirely on whether it would show up in time. Thankfully, it arrived before the weekend, which was a huge relief. That definitely started the whole experience off on a good note
The screen actually looks really good
I was surprised by how bright the Skylight frame screen is. Like, in a good way. Our family photos show up really clear, and the colors don’t look all faded or washed out like I kind of expected.
Meal planning ended up being more useful than I expected
I didn’t think I’d use the meal planning feature much, but it’s been handy. It doesn’t magically make dinner happen, but it does cut down on the daily “what are we eating?” back-and-forth, which is more helpful than I expected.
Hardware feels better than I expected
I kind of figured the Skylight frame would feel decent based on what I’d read, it pretty much confirmed that for me. The screen and frame both feel solid enough in person, not cheap or flimsy. The touch response works fine too. It’s not some super high-end tablet experience, but for what it’s meant to do, I’m happy with it.
Google Calendar sync actually worked
I got mine mainly because I wanted Google Calendar to sync without turning into a whole tech support project, and weirdly enough, it just worked. Updates showed up fast too, which is always shocking when a gadget does the exact thing you bought it for.
Uploading from the app is super easy
I’ve been using the app to add pictures, it’s really simple. I can just pick a few photos from my phone and send them over without having to call anyone or ask for help. It’s easy, easy enough that I don’t really have to think about it.
Nice features, but the extra cost feels a little unfair
I like the Skylight Calendar Plus features and they do make the device more useful, but it feels a bit frustrating to pay extra after already buying the calendar. I get that premium features cost money to maintain, but it would feel more fair if more of them were included upfront
Easy enough for a not-so-techy person
As someone who doesn’t consider myself super tech-savvy, I was relieved by how simple the Skylight app is. I can add photos or update calendar stuff from my phone without needing to be home, which makes it way easier to keep everything current.
Photos took a while to show up
My sister uploaded some photos to our Skylight, but they didn’t pop up until later. It wasn’t a big problem, just a little confusing for my parents because they kept checking and wondering if they did something wrong. I’ve heard other people mention theirs show up quickly, so maybe ours was just having a slow moment.
Grandma’s obsessed with her Skylight frame
We just email photos straight to my grandma’s Skylight frame and they pop up for her to see. Super easy on our end, and she absolutely loves it. it’s been one of those simple little gifts that actually gets used all the time.
